A little history

Whitley Bay's Spanish City dome — opened 1910 — was a magnificent Edwardian pleasure palace that fell into disrepair before being spectacularly restored in 2018. The beach is excellent. The town has undergone remarkable independent food and drink revival, making it one of the North East's most exciting destinations.

Local tip

The Spanish City restoration is beautiful — the food and events inside are excellent. The beach is good. The town centre independent food scene is outstanding for its size.
