About Westerham

Known for

Winston Churchill's home (Chartwell, where he lived from 1922 to 1964, is a National Trust property), the General Wolfe statue (who captured Quebec in 1759), and a beautiful Kent village of historic significance

A little history

Chartwell — Winston Churchill's beloved home from 1922 to 1964 — is one of the National Trust's most visited properties. Churchill painted, wrote and planned the nation's future here. The statue of General Wolfe in the village square celebrates the man who defeated the French at the Plains of Abraham in 1759, making Canada British.

Local tip

Chartwell is genuinely moving — Churchill's study, the garden and the paintings are extraordinary. The village square and General Wolfe's statue. The North Downs walking from Westerham.
