A little history

William Morris — the Victorian designer, craftsman, poet and socialist who transformed British decorative arts — was born in Walthamstow in 1834. The William Morris Gallery, in his family home, is the world's only public museum dedicated to him. Walthamstow Village has an extraordinary collection of 18th century almshouses and historic buildings.

Local tip

The William Morris Gallery is genuinely excellent and free. The Walthamstow Market (Lloyd Park to Wood Street) on Tuesdays and Saturdays — the longest market in London. Walthamstow Village for the remarkable historic character.
