A little history

Stan Laurel — half of Laurel and Hardy, the greatest comedy double act in cinema history — was born in Ulverston in 1890. The Hoad Monument (a replica of the Eddystone Lighthouse) dominates the skyline. The Ulverston Lantern Festival, held in September, is one of England's most extraordinary community arts events.

Local tip
