A little history

Tynemouth Priory — on a dramatic headland at the mouth of the Tyne — was founded in the 7th century and is one of the finest ruined monasteries in the North East. The Long Sands beach is excellent for families and surfers. The Tynemouth Market, held in the Victorian station, is one of the North East's finest.

Local tip

The Priory and Castle headland gives extraordinary Tyne mouth views (English Heritage). Long Sands beach is excellent. The Tynemouth Market in the Victorian station is outstanding. The town centre for excellent independent food.
