A little history

The English Riviera grew from a small fishing village into a premier Victorian resort, drawing visitors for its Mediterranean-like microclimate. Agatha Christie was born here in 1890. The palm trees along the seafront are real.

Local tip

The harbour area has the best independent restaurants. Cockington village — just inland — is extraordinarily preserved and free. Agatha Christie's Greenway is a National Trust gem.
