A little history

Thornbury Castle — begun by Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham, who was executed in 1521 before it was completed — is the only Tudor castle in England operating as a hotel. Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed here in 1535. The town has a pleasant market character.

Local tip

Thornbury Castle hotel is worth visiting even for a meal — the Tudor setting is extraordinary. The town centre for local community character. Bristol is close for wider amenities.
