A little history

James Herriot — the pen name of Alf Wight — was a vet in Thirsk (the model for his fictional 'Darrowby') for his entire working life. All Creatures Great and Small was set here. The World of James Herriot museum in his actual surgery is excellent. The market square is one of Yorkshire's finest.
