A little history

Tenterden's High Street — broad, tree-lined and bordered by fine Georgian and weatherboarded buildings — is one of the most beautiful in Kent. The Kent and East Sussex Railway runs from Tenterden to Bodiam Castle in East Sussex. The town was an important cloth centre in the medieval period.

Local tip

The Kent and East Sussex Railway to Bodiam is excellent — steam through the Rother Valley. The High Street is genuinely beautiful. The Weald of Kent walking. The town for excellent independent food.
