A little history

Dylan Thomas — the greatest Welsh poet in the English language — was born in Swansea in 1914 and described it as 'an ugly, lovely town'. The Gower Peninsula, designated Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956, begins at the city's western edge. The National Waterfront Museum tells the story of Welsh industry. Swansea was heavily bombed in WWII.
