A little history

Stow-on-the-Wold — the highest point in the Cotswolds at 244 metres — has been a market town since the medieval period. The large market square hosted famous sheep fairs where up to 20,000 animals were sold. The town now has an extraordinary concentration of antique dealers.

Local tip

The antique shops are genuinely excellent — plan a morning. The market square is beautiful. The Cotswolds walking from Stow. The town for outstanding independent food.
