A little history

A medieval market town at the confluence of the Goyt and Tame rivers. The railway viaduct (1840) dominates the town centre. Stockport was the hatting capital of the world. The air raid shelters beneath Stockport are one of the largest civilian WWII shelters in Britain.

The WWII air raid shelters beneath the town centre are extraordinary — one of England's great hidden experiences. Market Place for independent food. Robinsons Brewery for a tour. Didsbury is leafy and excellent.
