A little history

Izaak Walton — author of The Compleat Angler (1653), the most reprinted book in English after the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer — was born in Stafford in 1593. Stafford Castle occupies a dramatic hilltop site. The town has been the county town since the 10th century.
