Known for

The birthplace of Sir John Franklin (the Arctic explorer who discovered the Northwest Passage), the Lincolnshire Wolds gateway, and a small Lincolnshire market town

A little history

Sir John Franklin — who led the ill-fated 1845 Arctic expedition that discovered the Northwest Passage but perished in the ice — was born in Spilsby in 1786. A statue of Franklin stands in the market place. The town is at the southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB.
