A little history

Matthew Boulton's Soho Manufactory — in Smethwick — was where he partnered with James Watt to produce the steam engines that powered the Industrial Revolution. The Galton Valley Canal (Thomas Telford's cutting) is one of the finest canal engineering achievements in Britain. The town has an extraordinary diverse heritage.

Local tip

The Galton Valley canal area is a fine Industrial Revolution walk. The Soho House Museum (Boulton's home) in nearby Handsworth. The diverse community supports excellent food.
