A little history

Skelmersdale was designated a new town in 1961 to house Merseyside overspill. In the 1990s, followers of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi — who popularised Transcendental Meditation with the Beatles — established a significant community and university here. The town has a quiet spiritual identity alongside its working-class roots.
