A little history

Knole House — given to Thomas Cranmer by Henry VIII and later to the Sackville family — is one of the largest private houses in England. Virginia Woolf set Orlando here, and Vita Sackville-West grew up at Knole. The deer park is 1,000 acres of ancient parkland.

Local tip

Knole House (NT) is genuinely magnificent — the 365 rooms and the historical connections are extraordinary. The deer park for walking. Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve for birdwatching. The town centre for excellent independent food.
