A little history

Runcorn's Jubilee Bridge — a spectacular arch bridge carrying the A533 over the Mersey — is one of England's most dramatic river crossings. The town was developed as a new town from the 1960s and has strong industrial heritage in chemicals and manufacturing. The Catalyst Museum tells the story of the chemical industry.

Local tip

The Jubilee Bridge views over the Mersey are dramatic. The Catalyst Museum is genuinely excellent. The Runcorn Hill nature reserve for walking. The Mersey views from the towpath.
