A little history

Porthleven is a former pilchard fishing village with one of the most beautiful natural harbours in Cornwall. The village has developed an extraordinary restaurant scene — several chefs have established significant reputations here. The harbour wall during Atlantic storms provides some of Cornwall's most spectacular natural drama.

Local tip

Storm watching from the harbour wall is genuinely exhilarating — one of Cornwall's great free spectacles (check safety). The restaurant scene is outstanding for such a small village. The coastal walk south to Gunwalloe.
