About Pitlochry

Known for

The Pitlochry Festival Theatre (one of Scotland's finest), the Salmon Ladder (watch salmon leaping the dam), Edradour Distillery (Scotland's smallest traditional distillery), and a Victorian Highland resort of great charm

A little history

Pitlochry was developed as a Victorian Highland resort after Queen Victoria visited in 1842. The town's Festival Theatre — founded in 1951 — is one of Scotland's most beloved repertory theatres. The salmon ladder at the hydroelectric dam allows visitors to watch Atlantic salmon leaping upstream through underwater windows.

Local tip

The salmon ladder is extraordinary — watching salmon leap is genuinely exciting. The Pitlochry Festival Theatre for excellent productions. Edradour Distillery for the authentic smallest Highland distillery experience. The Loch Faskally walk.
