About Pittenweem

Known for

The East Neuk Arts Festival (one of Scotland's finest), the harbour (the main working fishing harbour of the East Neuk), St Fillan's Cave (an ancient hermit's cave and shrine), and one of Scotland's most characterful fishing villages

A little history

Pittenweem is the main working fishing harbour of the East Neuk of Fife — the village has been a fishing centre since medieval times. St Fillan's Cave, reached through a door in the village, is an extraordinary early Christian hermit's cave with a spring. The Pittenweem Arts Festival, held every August, fills the entire village with contemporary art.

Local tip

St Fillan's Cave is extraordinary — the ancient cave spring and hermit's cell. The Arts Festival in August transforms the village. The harbour for fresh fish. The East Neuk coastal walk.
