A little history

Peterlee was designated a new town in 1948, named after the trade union leader and local councillor Peter Lee. Victor Pasmore — a major British artist — was appointed as consulting director of urban design in 1955 and created the extraordinary Apollo Pavilion — a brutalist public artwork that divides opinion but is significant in British art history.
