The Cathedral (one of England's finest Norman buildings), the Flag Fen Bronze Age site, the Queensgate shopping centre and a new town expansion that didn't kill the old city's character

A little history

An ancient city around one of England's greatest Norman cathedrals. Mary Queen of Scots and Catherine of Aragon are buried here. Flag Fen is one of Britain's most important Bronze Age archaeological sites. The 1960s new town expansion brought enormous growth.

Local tip

The Cathedral is free to enter and extraordinary. Flag Fen for Bronze Age walking history — genuinely fascinating. Church Street for independent food. The Museum is excellent and free.
