About Penzance

Known for

The Isles of Scilly ferry terminus, the Jubilee Pool (an art deco lido, one of England's finest), St Michael's Mount, the Penlee House Gallery, and the westernmost town in mainland Britain with subtropical gardens

A little history

Penzance is the westernmost town of any size in mainland Britain — the Gulf Stream gives it a remarkably mild climate supporting subtropical gardens (Trengwainton and Morrab). The heliport and ferry serve the Isles of Scilly. The Jubilee Pool (1935) is one of England's finest art deco outdoor pools. St Michael's Mount is a short drive.

Local tip

The Jubilee Pool is extraordinary — one of England's great art deco lidos. St Michael's Mount is magnificent (walk at low tide, boat at high). The Penlee House Gallery for Newlyn School paintings. The Morrab Subtropical Garden (free).
