About Paisley

Known for

The Paisley Pattern (the teardrop motif that conquered 19th century fashion), Paisley Abbey (one of Scotland's finest), the town of thread (the home of Coats Paton and Clark's), and Scotland's largest town preparing for cultural renaissance

A little history

Paisley Pattern — the distinctive curved teardrop motif — originated in Kashmiri shawls but was reproduced in such quantities in Paisley mills that it bears the town's name worldwide. Clark's and Coats, the thread companies that became Coats Paton — once the world's largest thread manufacturer — were based here. Paisley Abbey, founded in 1163, is extraordinary.
