A little history

Ossett was a centre of the shoddy and mungo industries — recycled wool manufacturing that clothed much of the Victorian world. The town grew rapidly in the 19th century around these textile industries. The annual Ossett Beer Festival is one of West Yorkshire's most celebrated.

Local tip

The Beer Festival in autumn is excellent. The town centre market for local produce. Wakefield is close for wider amenities. The Calder Valley walking nearby.
