About Omagh

Known for

The Ulster American Folk Park (one of Ireland's finest open-air museums), the Gortin Glen Forest Park, and a County Tyrone market town forever marked by the 1998 bombing but defined by its resilient community

A little history

Omagh was the site of the worst single terrorist incident of the Troubles — the Real IRA bomb of 15 August 1998 killed 29 people and two unborn twins. The town has shown extraordinary resilience and community spirit. The Ulster American Folk Park, just outside the town, is one of the finest open-air museums in Ireland.

Local tip

The Ulster American Folk Park is genuinely outstanding — the story of Irish emigration to America told through reconstructed buildings. Gortin Glen Forest Park for excellent walking. The Omagh Peace Garden.
