A little history

George Eliot — born Mary Ann Evans in 1819 — was born at South Farm, Arbury, near Nuneaton. The town and surrounding area appear throughout her novels as 'Loamshire'. Middlemarch, widely considered the greatest novel in the English language, draws heavily on the Nuneaton area. The museum has an excellent George Eliot collection.
