A little history

Harry Avery's Castle — an unusual twin-towered gatehouse castle built in the 14th century — stands above Newtownstewart. The castle is named for Henry Aimhreidh O'Neill. The village is well placed for the Sperrins mountains and the Upper Mourne region.
