Lindores Abbey, just outside Newburgh, is where the first written record of Scotch whisky appears — in the Exchequer Rolls of 1494, friar John Cor of Lindores was directed to make aqua vitae. A distillery has now been established at Lindores to mark this historic connection.

The Lindores Abbey Distillery is genuinely significant — the birthplace of Scotch whisky, now producing again. The Tay estuary for wildlife. The town has good local character.
