About New Quay

Known for

The Dylan Thomas connection (he lived here 1944-45 and based much of 'Under Milk Wood' on the town), the bottlenose dolphins (one of the best places in Britain to see them), and a small Cardigan Bay fishing village of literary and natural beauty

A little history

Dylan Thomas lived in New Quay from 1944 to 1945 — the town is widely believed to be the model for Llareggub in Under Milk Wood, his 'play for voices'. Cardigan Bay holds one of the largest populations of bottlenose dolphins in Europe — boat trips from New Quay give remarkable close encounters.

Local tip

The dolphin boat trips are genuinely outstanding — close encounters with wild bottlenose dolphins. The Dylan Thomas connection celebrated in the pubs. The cliff walk to Bird Rock for seabirds.
