About Morecambe

Known for

The Eric Morecambe statue (the most beloved public statue in Britain), the Midland Hotel (a magnificent Art Deco building, restored to glory), the bay views (Snowdonia visible on clear days), and a Lancashire seaside resort of enduring charm

A little history

Eric Morecambe — half of Morecambe and Wise, Britain's most beloved comedy double act — took his stage name from the town where he grew up. The Eric Morecambe statue on the promenade has become one of Britain's most visited and photographed public sculptures. The Midland Hotel, built 1933, is a masterpiece of Art Deco design.

Local tip

The Eric Morecambe statue — doing the Sunshine pose — is genuinely joyful. The Midland Hotel for afternoon tea and the Art Deco interior. The bay views to Snowdonia on clear days. The RSPB Leighton Moss for extraordinary birdsong.
