About Milton Keynes

Known for

The grid roads and roundabouts (the planned new city), the concrete cows (David Kemp's iconic public sculpture), the National Museum of Computing (at Bletchley Park), Bletchley Park itself, and Britain's most architecturally ambitious new city

A little history

Milton Keynes was designated a new city in 1967 — its grid road system, shopping centre and planned parks were revolutionary. Bletchley Park, where the Enigma code was broken in WWII, is within the city boundary and is now one of Britain's most important heritage sites. The concrete cows in Campbell Park have become beloved icons.

Local tip

Bletchley Park is genuinely outstanding — the Enigma code-breaking story is extraordinary. The National Museum of Computing. The concrete cows in Campbell Park. The Redways cycling network.
