About Millport

Known for

The Cathedral of the Isles (Britain's smallest cathedral), cycling round Great Cumbrae (11 miles of coastal road around the island), the Garrison, and a tiny Scottish island resort of extraordinary charm

A little history

The Cathedral of the Isles in Millport — built 1849-51 by William Butterfield — is the smallest cathedral in Britain (and one of the most beautiful). Great Cumbrae island, accessible by ferry from Largs, is 11 miles in circumference — a perfect cycle circuit with views to Arran, Bute and the Ayrshire coast.

Local tip

Cycling round the island is one of Scotland's great easy cycling routes — suitable for all abilities. The Cathedral of the Isles is exquisite and free. The Garrison for the island museum. Ice cream in Millport is a tradition.
