A little history

Mere is a small market town on the edge of the Blackmore Vale at the Wiltshire-Somerset-Dorset borders. Stourhead — the extraordinary 18th century landscape garden with its temples, lake and grottos — is just 3 miles away. The town's church contains some fine medieval monuments.

Local tip

Stourhead is genuinely one of England's great gardens — the lake circuit is beautiful in any season. The town has good local character. The Blackmore Vale walking from Mere.
