Melton Mowbray has been producing hand-raised pork pies since the 18th century — the distinctive bow-sided pie shape is protected by PGI. The Vale of Belvoir nearby produces Stilton cheese. The town was for centuries the most fashionable fox-hunting destination in England — society came from London to hunt.
