About Louth

Known for

St James's Church (the tallest parish church spire in England at 90 metres), the market (one of Lincolnshire's finest), Alfred Lord Tennyson's connection, and the unofficial capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB

A little history

St James's Church spire — at 90 metres — is the tallest parish church steeple in England. Alfred Lord Tennyson was born nearby and educated in Louth. The town sits at the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds — an AONB of rolling chalk hills. The Wednesday, Friday and Saturday markets are among Lincolnshire's best.

Local tip

St James's spire is extraordinary — climb it if it's open. The market is excellent for local Lincolnshire produce. The Lincolnshire Wolds walking from the town. Tennyson's birthplace at Somersby is a short drive.
