A little history

Lostwithiel was the administrative capital of medieval Cornwall — home of the Duchy of Cornwall's courts, the stannary parliament and the coinage of tin. Restormel Castle, perched above the town, has one of the most complete circular keeps in England. The town has become a centre for antique and craft shops.

Local tip

Restormel Castle is extraordinary and rarely crowded — the circular keep is outstanding. The antique shops in the town centre are excellent. The River Fowey walk south towards Fowey. The town has genuine medieval character.
