About Llandudno

Known for

The Great Orme (a massive limestone headland with a cable car and Bronze Age copper mines), the Victorian pier, the promenade (the finest in Wales), Lewis Carroll's Alice connection, and North Wales's queen of resorts

A little history

Llandudno was carefully planned as a Victorian resort — the seafront and promenade were developed from the 1850s to create one of the most elegant seaside towns in Britain. Lewis Carroll visited with the Liddell family — Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland, spent childhood holidays here. The Great Orme's Bronze Age copper mines are 3,500 years old.

Local tip

The Great Orme by cable car or tramway is extraordinary — the views and the Bronze Age copper mines are outstanding. The promenade is genuinely magnificent. The pier for the Victorian seaside experience. The town centre for excellent independent shops.
