Letchworth Garden City, founded in 1903 by Ebenezer Howard following his visionary 1898 book 'To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform', was the world's first garden city. Its principles of combining town and country, green spaces and planned streets influenced urban planning across the globe. The Broadway Cinema, built in 1936, is Britain's oldest purpose-built cinema still operating.
