About Knighton

Known for

Offa's Dyke Path National Trail (the town is the official centre of the 177-mile route), the Spaceguard Centre (the UK's only professional asteroid-tracking observatory), and a small Welsh border town of extraordinary walking significance

A little history

Knighton — Tref-y-Clawdd in Welsh, meaning 'Town on the Dyke' — sits exactly on Offa's Dyke, the 8th century earthwork built to mark the boundary between England and Wales. The town is the official centre of the Offa's Dyke National Trail.

Local tip

The Offa's Dyke Centre in the town for trail information. The Spaceguard Centre for asteroid-tracking tours (booking required). Walk north or south on the Dyke itself.
