A little history

The Highland Folk Museum at Kingussie, founded in 1935 by Dr Isabel Grant, was the first open-air folk museum in the UK — predating Beamish and the Welsh Folk Museum. Ruthven Barracks, built after the 1715 Jacobite rising and burned by Bonnie Prince Charlie's army in 1746, stands dramatically above the town.
