About Kincardine

Known for

Kincardine Bridge (the swing bridge over the Forth that was the most westerly Forth crossing for decades), the Longannet power station site, and a small Fife town on the upper Forth

A little history

Kincardine Bridge (1936) was the most westerly crossing of the Forth for 30 years, and the last surviving Forth swing bridge. Longannet power station — once the largest coal power station in Europe — dominated the skyline until demolition began in 2018. The town has medieval origins as a port.

Local tip

The Forth estuary views from Kincardine are excellent. The town has a good local character. The Kincardine Bridge for the historic swing bridge. The Ochil Hills are accessible nearby.
