About Kilburn

Known for

The Irish community (Kilburn High Road is historically one of London's most Irish streets), the Tricycle Theatre (now Kiln Theatre), the Gaumont State Cinema (a magnificent Art Deco cinema), and a North West London neighbourhood of vibrant multicultural character

A little history

Kilburn was the first settlement outside London on the Edgware Road. The area became strongly associated with Irish immigration in the 19th and 20th centuries — Kilburn High Road was nicknamed the 'Kilburn Mile'. The Gaumont State Cinema (1937) is one of the finest Art Deco buildings in Britain.

Local tip

The Gaumont State Cinema facade on the High Road is extraordinary Art Deco. The Kiln Theatre (formerly Tricycle) for excellent productions. Kilburn High Road for diverse independent food. The Market for Saturday food.
