About Keighley

Known for

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (the heritage steam line to Haworth, used in The Railway Children), Haworth and the Brontë Country gateway, and a West Yorkshire textile town with literary and rail heritage

A little history

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway — a 4.5-mile branch line — was saved by volunteers in 1968 and became famous when it starred in The Railway Children (1970). The line runs to Haworth, home of the Brontë sisters. The town grew as a worsted textile centre in the 19th century.

Local tip

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is genuinely excellent — steam trains to Haworth and Oxenhope. Haworth village for the Brontë Parsonage Museum. The Worth Valley countryside for walking.
