A little history

Jedburgh Abbey, founded in 1138, was one of the great Border abbeys. Mary Queen of Scots visited in 1566 and nearly died of fever here.

Local tip

Jedburgh Abbey is magnificent and free. Mary Queen of Scots house is worth visiting. The Jed Water gorge walk.
