A little history

Suffolk's county town and one of England's oldest ports. Ipswich has 12 medieval churches. Cardinal Wolsey — Henry VIII's Lord Chancellor — was born here. The Waterfront regeneration has transformed the old dock area.

Local tip

The Waterfront area for independent food and the Ipswich Picturehouse. Tavern Street for independent shopping. The Christchurch Mansion is free and genuinely excellent. The Ancient House is Tudor plasterwork at its finest.
