About Huddersfield

Known for

The finest Victorian railway station in Britain (St George's Square), the birthplace of Harold Wilson (Labour Prime Minister), the Rugby League heartland, and a West Yorkshire town of extraordinary architectural ambition

A little history

Huddersfield's railway station — built in 1847 in a magnificent Greek Revival style — is flanked by the finest Victorian commercial architecture in England. Harold Wilson, who served as Prime Minister twice (1964-70 and 1974-76), was born in Huddersfield in 1916. The town is the heartland of Rugby League.
