About Hornsea

Known for

Hornsea Mere (Yorkshire's largest freshwater lake), the Hornsea Pottery heritage (the distinctive collectible pottery was made here), and a small East Yorkshire seaside town with a distinctive identity

A little history

Hornsea Pottery, founded in 1949, created some of Britain's most collected mid-century ceramics — particularly the Heirloom and Saffron ranges. The pottery closed in 2000 but collector culture sustains the heritage. Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire.

Local tip
