Horbury was the birthplace of John Carr in 1723 — the most prolific and influential architect of Georgian Yorkshire, who designed Harewood House, Cannon Hall and dozens of Yorkshire's finest buildings. The town sits in the Calder Valley with good access to the wider West Riding.
